I am a naturally compassionate person who takes great pride in helping others, especially when it comes to individuals who may need an extra bit of support to live their lives as normal as possible.
Being a carer is much more then just a job, it is about being there for people who need your help, care, companionship and support whilst ensuring they are treated with respect and kindness, and that their dignity is intact and they are supported and treated in a professional manner. I enjoy seeing the happiness on clients faces and their spirits lifted from the work that I am doing.
I gained 3 years experience and knowledge whilst working in a nursing home as a healthcare assistant and live-in carer. This involved dealing with different residents who all had different needs.
As a live in carer I assisted with home cooked fresh meals, bathing, dressing, continence support, mobility issues, overseeing medication according to the customer's care plan. Whilst in the nursing home I cared for clients suffering with dementia ensuring their interests and needs were met. I assisted with personal care, food preparation, feeding and giving out medication, using a hoist and providing end of life care.
I am a patient person with excellent communication skills, who has a willingness to listen when the client is talking. I am a highly observant, reliable person who has a high level of empathy. My previous experience has given me the ability to keep a cool head and be patient and calm with the client, especially when emergency situations arise. I am an organised person who is used to dealing with GP's, medical appointments and schedules. The health and safety and safeguarding of the client is my priority.
